“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” the club stated on their official website today.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch,” the club also stated.
CR7 as the footballer is called by teaming fans second spell at Manchester United ended on a sour note after he arrived with fanfare at the club last season.
The Portugal captain scored 24 goals in all competitions last season but has struggled this term, netting only thrice in 16 games.
He also found playing time hard to get after missing most of pre-season and he was suspended for refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur, walking out of the stadium while the match was on.
Ronaldo is with the Portugal squad in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, where they will face Ghana in their opening game on Thursday.
